This Lodge in Alaska is Perfect for Family Reunions (Evenson Heritage Lodge)

Last weekend my husband and I were invited out to Evenson Heritage Lodge - an original homestead property in Nikiski turned into an Airbnb. Located just 3 hours from Anchorage, it's beautiful location and gigantic size makes it the ultimate spot to stay for family reunions or large friend groups looking to make some epic memories in Alaska.

My Essential Alaska Travel Resources :
There are plenty of travel companies out there, but these are my favorite websites and resources for planning an unforgettable trip to Alaska. This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

For flights, I recommend using Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to Alaska.

Car rentals, arguably the best way to see Alaska, are best through Discover Cars!

I always use Expedia's easy-to-use platform to compare the best rates.

To keep cell service if you're traveling internationally, I use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required), and NordVPN to stay safe while connecting to different wifi.

For fun things to do, I recommend Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours in the area.

Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance.

Lastly, my Alaska packing list for your travels to the Last Frontier.

Where Even is Nikiski Alaska?

Picture
Nikiski is a small town in Alaska that centers around some local oil refineries. Although that doesn't sound too glamorous, it's also located on the northern coast of the Kenai Peninsula, and has beautiful beaches and stunning views of nearby mountain ranges. At just over a 3 hour drive from Anchorage, chances of seeing moose & bear are pretty high, but you'll still be just 20 minutes away from Kenai - a city big enough to have a Walmart.

Evenson Heritage Lodge is located right outside of Nikiski, down a few backroads onto a section of land that sits right in between two lakes. Trust me, it's stunning. They actually have an entire 100 private acres themselves, and then extra acreage for a few other ventures they have going on (they hope to have camping options on a different area of the lake by next summer).

Why Choose Evenson Heritage Lodge

There's plenty of amenities onsite making Evenson the perfect spot for large groups. Plus their location is the most serene and peaceful place to wake up - imagine walking outside and immediately hearing the loons on the lake. They've got hiking on their own private trails, swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing, basketball, volleyball, a sandbox for the kids, a pool table, multiple game rooms, and even an outdoor hot tub - have I convinced you yet?

When I visited it was just me and my husband, and there was so. much. space. The lodge sleeps 16 comfortably, not counting any sofas or air mattresses, and has a large dining area with multiple living rooms. Not to mention all the space outside too. There are a few signs warning about wildlife, and although I didn't see any during my visit, it doesn't mean they aren't close by (think moose, black bears, and even grizzlies).

When I met the 24/7 caretakers onsite who told us the entire story about the homestead and how it's become what it is today, you could also tell they're truly passionate about their guests. They went above and beyond welcoming us and even took my husband out on a 4x4 ATV tour of the property to share all their future plans and current renovations - Evenson Heritage Lodge easily became one of my favorite places to stay on the entire Kenai Peninsula.
