My Essential Alaska Travel Resources :
There are plenty of travel companies out there, but these are my favorite websites and resources for planning an unforgettable trip to Alaska. This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. For flights, I recommend using Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to Alaska. Car rentals, arguably the best way to see Alaska, are best through Discover Cars! I always use Expedia's easy-to-use platform to compare the best rates. To keep cell service if you're traveling internationally, I use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required), and NordVPN to stay safe while connecting to different wifi. For fun things to do, I recommend Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours in the area. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. Lastly, my Alaska packing list for your travels to the Last Frontier. About Freewheel Tours (E-Bike & Art)
18 miles might sound like a lot, but with E-bikes it really isn't. I'll be honest I'm definitely not a person who's "in shape" and for a majority of our experience it felt like we were coasting. (The peddle assist on the bikes really assists, haha.) During our tour, we averaged about 10-12 miles per hour and the entire biking portion was about 3 hours.
Along the way we stopped at various art installations throughout the city. We opted for the Public Art tour, but they also offer Anchorage History tours. Some of these art pieces and murals I had seen while driving around town, some I had never seen before. At each piece we had a chance to stop, explore, and hear about the history and inspiration for the art piece. Our guide, Leland, was great at answering questions and kept a pace that was easy for my husband and I to keep up with. We started at Tudor Elementary, made our way near the University, and eventually made our way downtown before heading back.
My Favorite Tours Near Anchorage :
- Matanuska Glacier Tour - Alaska Railroad Roundtrip to Seward -> The Classic Trolley Tour The Perfect Date?
You might be wondering why I've decided to call this e-bike tour "the perfect date" - well, to be honest it felt like it. We met our guide in a quiet area of town, introduced ourselves and off we went. We got to enjoy some incredible views of the mountains and Anchorage's parks, we went by some local ponds and lagoons, we even had the chance to stop and get a coffee.
About halfway through our e-bike tour, we stopped at Turnagain Ceramics. This is a new addition to the tour, and to be honest I loved it. It gave my legs a little break and chance to stretch, and I got to try pottery for the first time! We were able to choose from 3 different options - and I went with the "Fishy Flatwear" so my husband and I could make some Halibuts. We're still waiting to get our pieces back after they finish glazing them for us, but I honestly think they turned out adorable and can't wait to see the finished products!
This bike tour is $260 for two people (a.k.a. $130 per person), and decreases in price-per-person with more people ($360 for four people, a.k.a. $90 a person). However, I think it's important to keep in mind that a private ceramics class on it's own is $60 per person.
