My Essential Alaska Travel Resources :
There are plenty of travel companies out there, but these are my favorite websites and resources for planning an unforgettable trip to Alaska. This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. For flights, I recommend using Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to Alaska. Car rentals, arguably the best way to see Alaska, are best through Discover Cars! I always use Expedia's easy-to-use platform to compare the best rates. To keep cell service if you're traveling internationally, I use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required), and NordVPN to stay safe while connecting to different wifi. For fun things to do, I recommend Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours in the area. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. Lastly, my Alaska packing list for your travels to the Last Frontier. What is The Painted Picnic?
Do you remember all those "Paint & Sip" nights people were having a few years ago? The Painted Picnic is just like that, but with an Alaskan twist. Once you arrive at the Boyd Bison Farm (yes, an actual farm with Bison) Amanda will lead you to the painting spot - usually near one of the pavilions near their private lake with an incredible view of the mountains in the background. She'll have everything set up for you (paints, canvasses, etc.) so all you need to do is show up ready to paint! Even if you've never painted before, she'll guide you throughout the entire process and give you her best insider painting tips. Halfway through you'll take a little break to let your background dry, and to enjoy the picnic you brought from home near the lake!

Even though my husband Tyler wasn't with me for this picnic, I could immediately see how this would be the perfect date idea for any couple or friend group! The setting was beautiful with the swans on the lake and mountains in the back, and so peaceful with the sound of water flowing near us. I loved that all I had to do was show up and everything else was already prepared for me, I didn't even have to clean up! My painting was of the scenery in front of us, and was easy enough for a first time painter to complete. Overall, a 10/10 date idea.
