There are plenty of travel companies out there, but these are my favorite websites and resources for planning an unforgettable trip to Alaska. I always use Expedia's to compare the best rates & stays in the state. If you're traveling internationally, I use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required). For fun things to do, I recommend Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours in the area. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. What to Expect at Keetna Hideaway
Keetna Hideaway is Talkeetna's newest Airbnb and glamping experience. When they reached out and invited my husband and I to come experience it firsthand, I immediately knew it was a yes. Located off the Talkeetna Spur Road about 15 minutes from downtown Talkeetna, the stay is perfectly located for anyone wanting to explore Talkeetna while also wanting to explore some of the main tourist attractions around Denali.
Since Keetna Hideaway is located on about 11 acres of birch forest, you'll immediately feel secluded and private as you pull onto the property. Although the drive is typically gated, when guests are onsite they leave it unlocked so you can drive in & out whenever you'd like. The drive to get to the actual tent itself is a bit long, however the owner Diane greeted us at the gate and showed us exactly how to get there. Rumor has it they're also planning on adding a few more unique rental spaces like a converted bus, a second glamping tent, and even a hot tub and barrel sauna - you can read more about new additions on their Airbnb listing!
Because this is an adult's only retreat, you can expect a bit more of a quiet and relaxed atmosphere - perfect for cozy weekend getaways. The glamping tent is fully furnished, is elevated on a outdoor deck, has a grill and solo stove for cozy fires, and an entire bathhouse with plumbing (which isn't always the case in Alaska). Even though my husband and I didn't see any during our stay, we were told moose frequent the property, and it's an excellent spot for birding. A short walk away is their community space, with fun yard games, an indoor lounge, and even a record player.
Overall, I would say this glamping stay is best for couples wanting to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful getaway in nature while still having access to modern amenities.
My Honest Review of Glamping at Keetna Hideaway
I've been glamping a few times now, like on this glacier in Alaska, but Keetna Hideaway is easily one of the best glamping tents I've been in. Because it's on a more permanent structure (on the elevated outdoor deck), the stay is fully furnished and even has an entire bathhouse with plumbing, making it super cozy and convenient for guests.
Inside the tent you'll find plenty of "amenities" to make it feel like home. There's two lounge chairs, a bed, two nightstands, a coffee & tea cart, a refrigerator, and a heater in case you have cooler weather. Even though it's a summer stay, in Alaska you never really know what the weather will be like, so heaters are more important than you'd think. What went above an beyond for me was the fact that they even had a laundry basket, a mosquito racket, and a little welcome bag with goodies.
Outside the tent, on the elevated deck, you'll find two reclining lounge chairs plus a little table and another set of chairs incase you want to eat outside and enjoy your food or coffee with some nature. Tyler and I loved sitting out here in the mornings while enjoying our coffee, and at night while we looked for the resident moose. There's also a grill for outdoor cooking, and a solo stove with two chairs out front for s'mores (that comes with two marshmallow sticks).
Also on the elevated deck you'll find the bathhouse, which has two rooms - one with a small kitchen area for preparing food or heating up any leftovers and the second for the bathroom area. Because there's plumbing, they have a sink, flushable toilet, shower, and a stunning tub right next to a large picture window so you can soak while enjoying the views. Don't worry, it's only forest on the other side so you don't need to worry about anyone seeing you. ;) Honestly, this was one of my favorite parts of this stay - soaking in the hot tub with their included bath salts while enjoying the views and having their soft robes to wear after.
Even though Keetna Hideaway has thought of pretty much everything, there's a few things I'd recommend bringing with you if you book a stay. Honestly, they're items we bring to almost every cabin or weekend getaway. Indoor slippers for when you're lounging inside, eye masks to avoid the midnight sun, and a refillable water bottle are all great ideas (they provide drinking water). Even though there's lots of great places to eat in Talkeetna, I also recommend bringing food to enjoy, like s'mores ingredients! With the grill and solo stove right onsite it's a great chance to enjoy a meal right onsite!
My honest review is that this is the perfect getaway for couples. Everything was so quiet, peaceful, and cozy that my husband and I really found ourselves not wanting to leave - we wanted to sleep in a little later, enjoy a nice relaxing bonfire, and sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea and coffee with a good book. It was the perfect stay that encouraged us to relax, unwind, and recharge our internal batteries.
