My Essential Alaska Travel Resources :
There are plenty of travel companies out there, but these are my favorite websites and resources for planning an unforgettable trip to Alaska. This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. For flights, I recommend using Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to Alaska. Car rentals, arguably the best way to see Alaska, are best through Discover Cars! I always use Expedia's easy-to-use platform to compare the best rates. To keep cell service if you're traveling internationally, I use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required), and NordVPN to stay safe while connecting to different wifi. For fun things to do, I recommend Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours in the area. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. Lastly, my Alaska packing list for your travels to the Last Frontier. A Visit to Seward - Where to Stay
No matter how short your visit to Alaska is, I recommend spending at least one night in Seward - more if possible! Whether you're visiting in the winter or summer, the coziest place (in my opinion) to stay is at Salted Roots. They have multiple options to choose from, like A-Frames and a Retro Bus Cabin, even cozy cottages next door at Rustic Roots, and with an onsite sauna and beach access to Resurrection Bay it easily takes the place for my top choice on where to stay in Seward.
My Personal Favorite Restaurants in Seward
1. The Cookery, $$
Opened in 2015, The Cookery has focused on finding fresh oysters, locally farmed meats, and foraged finds from around the Kenai Peninsula, all paired with wines from around the world. We visited for their Saturday brunch, got their avocado toast and biscuits & gravy - and although a little pricey, it's a great place to eat! We'll definitely be going back to try a dinner with one of their wines!
2. Lone Chicharron Taqueria, $
Owned by the same couple as The Cookery, The Lone Chicharron has the best street tacos - my personal favorite is the rock fish, but I also love their steak & elote tacos! My husband loves their pork burrito, and of course we always leave with some of their handmade paletas (popsicles) with rotating flavors.
3. Resurrection Art Coffee House, $
This adorable coffee house has great small bites and warm drinks, plus an adorable inside with small, locally made gifts and artwork. They have different hand baked goods, which can quickly sell out if you don't go early enough, but I love their Jalepeno Bagel Poppers and my husband loves their Cheese Biscuits - they also have great Chocolate Chip Cookies! If you're looking for a place to chill out, meet up with a friend, or do some work, this is a great spot, they also have a delicious London Fog.
4. Woody's Thai Kitchen, $$
I'll be honest, this is the most expensive Thai food I've ever had, but the portions are huge and everything we had was delicious. On a typical night the restaurant will be packed with locals, and although I would almost bet that everything on their menu tastes good, I loved their Bacon Fried Rice with Pineapple & their Chicken & Shrimp Pad Thai. They also have a delicious Thai Iced Tea!
5. Alaska Seafood Grill, $$
Open year round, this seafood restaurant is quite spendy now for a basic seafood & chips basket, but it's great in the summer and their outdoor patio is usually packed. My husband and I usually split a variation of their Fish n Chips or Fried Shrimp Baskets, and we always leave with one of their milkshakes!
6. Harbor Street Creamery, $
This local ice cream shop is widely recommended by locals, and although I didn't taste anything super special, it's a great quick stop in the summer!
